Hinterland & Frontier Affairs

HFASA stands for Hinterland & Frontier Affairs / Special Advisors. The name reflects our analytical philosophy, holistic approach, and focus on key strategic drivers.

Simply put, we consider every client we accept as operating on a specific strategic "chessboard" that is interconnected with certain other chessboards critical to the client's board. Each such chessboards being systems in the sense of critical spheres, with their own logic: geopolitical, political, market, governmental/regulatory, social, media, cultural, and legal. And each shaped by the interaction of both fundamental and situational variables. As follows:

On these chessboards (i.e. systems),

  • the Hinterland encompasses the fundamentals, internal structures, and underlying forces that shape the long‑term characteristics, direction, and potentials of such a system; while

  • the Frontier comprises the trends, events, tensions, and points of focus that currently drive this (and other) system(s).

By analyzing both dimensions simultaneously, our Hinterland & Frontier‑experienced Special Advisors help clients understand not only present realities, but also the deeper forces driving them, how they are typically connected, and the strategic developments most likely to shape what comes next.

Based on the resulting scenario assessments, our clients strengthen the quality of their decision‑making processes. For smarter next moves in high‑stakes situations.
